With an extremely urgent announcement, the Cybercrime Prosecution Unit calls on citizens to be particularly careful in order not to be deceived by sms and a website whose sole aim is to extract money from citizens, even using the name of a large company.
As reported: Recently, a mass of SMS messages have been circulating, misleadingly informing mobile phone owners that the recipient has won an amount of 850,000 British pounds from a competition run by a large company.
And he continues: In recent times, there has been a massive distribution, through mobile telephony networks, of SMS messages to random users, stating that the owner of the phone has won an amount of 850,000 British pounds from a competition run by a large company.
Then, in order to collect the amount, it urges users to visit a specific website and then asks them to type in the attached code to learn the details of collecting the amount.
The message is written in English and states: “Your Mobile Number has Won 850,000 British Pounds in the ongoing Samsung Promo. Visit and click on Prize at the top menu. Your Samsungk: 10965”
If the user is convinced of his alleged victory in the competition and begins to communicate with the perpetrators, he is asked to send money with various justifications, such as prepayment of taxes or disbursement costs of the money.
In this context, the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime informs citizens:
• Do not be convinced by messages (sms or emails) that state that they won a sum of money in a competition (lottery), in which they never declared their participation.
• Do not send personal or banking information to the perpetrators.
• Do not pay any amount of money to the perpetrators.
In any case, citizens can contact directly:
• With the Coordination Operational Center "CYBERALERT" of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate through the application "CYBER KID"
• Call the telephone number 210-6476464 and
• Send their question to the email address ccu@cybercrimeunit.gov.gr to receive instructions or to report the illegal activity.
