A 48-year-old man fell victim to online fraud when he purchased a truck a month ago, which he had never "seen".
After investigating the case, a 27-year-old man is in police custody on charges of fraud and forgery.
The police investigation began when the 48-year-old reported to the Aridaia Pella police station that he called a number on a car sales website, spoke with an unknown man about purchasing the vehicle, but he was defrauded by him.
Specifically, the 48-year-old complained that he deposited a sum of money into a bank account as consideration for the purchase of a private truck, but never received it.
The police investigation revealed that the 27-year-old is the owner of the specific bank account and that in order to defraud the 48-year-old, he sent him a sworn statement, supplemented with false information, which was forged.
A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Aridaia Pella Police Department. The case file that was formed will be submitted to the Edessa Criminal Court prosecutor.
