Search engines made their appearance in the late 1980s. The time that passed before people started searching the Internet, even sporadically, was minimal. Already in the mid-1990s, very “powerful” search engines with excellent information-finding capabilities had been created. From 1998 onwards, with the founding of Google, the realities of online life changed. The most famous search engine can “answer” almost any question asked of it.
Faced with the inexhaustible source of information offered to us, everyone found their own secret, online friend, whom they could ask anything they wanted without any meaning. Almost three decades after the appearance of search engines, apparently the relationship between man and Google is everyday. A group of researchers, called Search Factory, presents some of the most… strange questions that the American company’s engine often encounters.
The questions “Where can I hide a dead body?” and “How can I get away with murder?” are asked 1,000 and 2,000 times, respectively, in a month. A smaller, but admittedly more curious, share of Google users searches for… cat dating and techniques to make their cat love them. Questions about Lady Gaga could not be missing from the list, with users trying to find out if the famous singer is a man.
To the phrase “Why did I get married?” Google has to answer more than 40 thousand times in a month. Corresponding people are looking for a way to win the lottery, while more than 5,000 “beginners” are confused and ask the machine itself about “how to use Google”. Finally, about 60 thousand children each month search for whether the existence of Santa Claus is real and another 18 thousand wonder why men have nipples.
