Before Laura Poitras mentioned Glenn Greenwald in the story about former National Security Agency employee Edward Snowden, Greenwald had received messages from a mysterious contact named “Cincinnatus.” The source urged Greenwald to learn how to secure his email with encryption so he could receive sensitive information.
Cincinnatus even went so far as to send him a step-by-step instructional video to install the additional security measures. However, Greenwald didn't bother to install it until he met Snowden in Hong Kong, where he realized he might have missed the opportunity to get more information about the big scandal by not following Cincinnatus.
Eventually, Cincinnatus turned out to be Snowden. Then Greenwald emailed Cincinnatus to let him finally install the encryption.
