A rather strange tool has appeared on the internet in recent hours and has caught the attention of several news sites. It is Sell Hack , an extension for Google Chrome , Mozilla Firefox and Safari , which can detect the email of any LinkedIn user in seconds .
Using the extension involves risk, as it collects user data while browsing the professional Social Network, without us knowing where this data ends up. The issue, however, is how an extension can and does identify, based on algorithms and without a hack, the email of any user based on public data. How well protected are we on LinkedIn?
The tool was used many times to find the email of important LinkedIn users and it worked great in most cases. There were, of course, some cases where the tool guessed what the email might be.
For its part, LinkedIn issued an official response stating that the Sell Hack tool has committed several violations and advises all its users to immediately uninstall the extension, as it can collect personal data without users' consent. Caution is required when installing any extension.
For those who are brave enough to try their luck, by installing the extension, the "Hack In" option (see image above) appears on all profiles, and by clicking on it you can search for any user's email.
