It seems that anonymity is returning to the internet in 2014, something we had initially noticed with the rapid rise of Whisper and now with statements from Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Facebook.
As you know, Facebook only allows its users to use their real name for profiles, otherwise it has the right to deactivate a profile and request identification of the user's name. These are Facebook's terms of use and it seems that they are not going to change.
In 2014, the Facebook Creative Labs is expected to release several mobile apps, starting with Paper on February 3, that will apparently separate Facebook's various features into standalone apps. In other words, they will break down the general suite of features and services into more specialized packages for more specific uses.
According to TechCrunch, future Facebook apps will not require users to use their real names. Mark has previously said that having two identities shows a lack of integrity. Speaking to BusinessWeek, Mark said: “I don’t know if the balance has shifted much, but I definitely think we’re at a point where we don’t have to keep doing things with just our real identities. If you’re always under the pressure of your real identity, I think that’s a burden in a way.”
Finally, we must not forget that Instagram also allows the use of pseudonyms, something that was not affected after the acquisition of the social app by Facebook.
