Pope Francis says the internet is a 'gift from God'

Pope

The Internet is a “gift from God,” Pope Francis believes. The statement comes on the occasion of the Catholic Church’s World Communications Day.

Not only is the Internet a gift from God, but the Pope also sees it as a good means of promoting dialogue between different groups. He believes the Internet has helped create a sense of unity in the world, along with the unprecedented rapid advancement of technology and digital media.

Communication, even online, could help smooth over differences of many natures, including religious, economic, and political.

The Pope stressed, however, that the speed of social networks can also work to the detriment of individuals, since they can isolate users from their friends and family.

"While all these drawbacks are real, they cannot be an excuse to reject social media. Rather, they remind us that communication is ultimately human and not a technological achievement. So what is it that helps us, in a digital environment, to understand entity and mutual understanding?" he wondered .

Overall, however, the digital world can be an environment rich in entities, characterizing it as "not a network of wires, but of people.".
