Along with the end of support for Windows XP in April 2014, Microsoft also announced the withdrawal of the free protection program Microsoft Security Essentials.
However, according to a new announcement, the company noted that the software will continue to be available for Windows XPuntil July 14, 2015. However, Microsoft still recommends that users running the 12-year-old operating system move to a newer platform.
“ Microsoft has already announced the end of support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. After that date, Windows XP will no longer be a supported operating system. To help organizations complete their transition to a newer operating system, Microsoft will continue to provide updates for anti-malware tools through July 14, 2015,” the company noted. “This does not affect the end of support date for Windows XP or support for other Microsoft products.”
However, the company emphasized that the effectiveness of antimalware solutions for operating systems that are out of support is limited, which is why the transition of users to a newer platform is necessary.
"Effective protection starts with using modern software designed to address the risks of the modern threat landscape," Microsoft emphasized.
