Security company Symantec has published a detailed report on cyberattacks targeting the energy sector.
This sector is becoming an increasingly frequent target lately. In fact, in 2013 it was the fifth most targeted sector.
A wide range of actors have targeted the energy industry, including governments, competitors seeking an advantage, so-called paid hackers, and even hacktivists.
The most common attack techniques used in attacks against the energy sector are application vulnerabilities, spear phishing, backdoors, and weak passwords. So far, the most notable attacks are associated with Stuxnet, Shamoon, and Night Dragon.
