“GS Lookup – Snapchat” is a tool designed for users of the popular online application Snapchatto determine if their accounts have been compromised, following a hacking attack on the service.
The app was created by developers Will Smidlein and Robbie Trencheny and notifies users if they have been affected so they can immediately take the necessary protective measures.
The attack was carried out through a security flaw in the app and led to a massive leak of personal information of users of the service. About 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers were published on the website SnapchatDB.info, which was deactivated a few hours later.
In order to check if their information has been leaked, users are simply asked to fill in their username in the application.
If an account has been compromised, the tool notifies the user and generates their phone number (without the last two digits).
