Maserati boosts Folgore electric range to 85 km in 2026

Maserati has revealed upgrades to its Folgore electric vehicle range , with the GranTurismo Folgore now claiming over 540 km of WLTP range — an improvement of around 85 km compared to the previous version, thanks to new energy management algorithms.

The range improvements come as Maserati struggles to maintain its relevance amid a sales collapse that has seen deliveries fall to just 7,900 units in 2025, a 30% year-on-year decline and the lowest level since 2012.

The upgrades cover all three Maserati electric models: the GranTurismo Folgore coupe, the GranCabrio Folgore convertible and the Grecale Folgore SUV. The hardware remains largely unchanged — it's a software and calibration refresh, not a complete platform overhaul.

The GranTurismo Folgore retains the 800-volt architecture with three motors (one up front, two decoupled at the rear) delivering a continuous 760 horsepower to the wheels from over 1,200 horsepower installed. The 92.5 kWh battery remains, but a new energy management algorithm pushes the range beyond 540 km — a significant increase from the previous WLTP estimate of ~456 km.

Top speed remains at 325 km/h, while new driving modes include a Country that raises the ride height by 20 mm and a Max Range for maximum efficiency. A Performance Optimizer in Corsa can deliver up to 10% more power by distributing torque across all three engines.

The GranCabrio Folgore — which Maserati touts as the world's fastest electric convertible at 290 km/h — receives the same energy management improvements, although Maserati did not provide a specific new range estimate for the open-top version.

The Grecale Folgore SUV confirms the maximum range of 580 km introduced in the MY26 model and adds incremental improvements from a new Air Grille Shutter (AGS)system, improved aerodynamics in the front bumper and underbody, and more efficient tires. The result: up to 9 km more range with 20-inch wheels and up to 53 km more with 21-inch wheels. The 550 hp, 400-volt powertrain with AWD Disconnect system remains.

The Folgore upgrades are hidden within a much larger announcement that clearly focuses on Maserati's internal combustion engines. The main news from Stellantis is the Nettuno V6 engine being upgraded to 590 hp in the GranTurismo and GranCabrio Trofeo, and a new 390 hp V6 engine debuting in the Grecale for the first time.

Maserati COO Santo Ficilidescribed the strategy as investing in “technologies that best express the Maserati character: from the development of iconic engines like the V6 Nettuno to the evolution of the performance of the Folgore range.” This is a deliberate parallel presentation — ICE and EV side by side — far removed from 2022 when Maserati announced it would go fully electric by 2030.

Context matters: Stellantis is in talks with two potential partners to secure Maserati's future, with a decision expected by December. Sales have collapsed from 51,500 in 2017 to fewer than 8,000 last year. The brand simply cannot afford to alienate its ICE customer base while it searches for a lifeline.

In the luxury electric coupe segment, the GranTurismo Folgore’s upgraded 540+ km range puts it in more competitive territory. But Maserati’s volumes are so small that the competitive comparison is almost academic — the brand sold fewer cars globally in all of 2025 than Porsche sells Taycans in a quarter.

The Grecale Folgore remains an attractive electric SUV with its 360+ mile range and AWD Disconnect system that transfers drive to the rear axle in 500 milliseconds for efficiency gains. But at a price tag of over $100,000, it competes with the Porsche Macan Electric, BMW iX , and Mercedes EQE SUV — all from manufacturers with much stronger dealer networks and brand momentum.

The range improvements here are truly significant — an 85km increase in the GranTurismo Folgore through software alone suggests that Maserati's EV engineering team is doing a good job and feels more comfortable pushing its hardware further, even as the brand's business foundations deteriorate around them.
