18,000 applications for 390 jobs at OTE

Over 18,000 resumes were sent to OTE to be evaluated for 390 job openings. According to executives at the organization, the number of resumes sent by last Monday created a ratio of approximately 50 candidates for each job opening.

oteeIt is noted that the submission of applications ends next Friday and everyone expects that the number of interested parties will increase.

According to OTE data, there is a huge shortage of candidates in the category of executives to be hired for corporate sales. OTE wants to hire 10 corporate salespeople and the number of interested candidates by last Monday had exceeded 5,000. In other words, there was a ratio of 500 candidates for each proposed job position. This ratio demonstrates the dramatic employment situation prevailing in the IT and telecommunications market, where an army of executives has now found itself on the road, after the sharp expansion of the market until 2008 and the recession that followed from then on. But there is also a great shortage in the category of retail salespeople who will fill jobs in OTE stores. For each of the 100 jobs, 90 candidates appear. Finally, there were 4,300 candidates to fill 280 field technician positions, as OTE calls them. It is noted that these are positions that are paid the basic salary, i.e. 584 euros.

However, the numbers of interested parties are not new to OTE. Accordingly, it had collected a large number of applications last year and the year before, when the organization attempted similar recruitments, after implementing voluntary staff retirement programs. For example, at the end of 2011, to fill approximately 700 job positions, OTE had collected over 30,000 CVs.

This year, OTE is estimated to include more than 2,000 employees in voluntary retirement programs. This is the last "old batch of OTE employees" who have been hired on a permanent basis. After their departure, very few employees of the telecommunications organization will have been hired with a fixed-term contract, which is their retirement date. The vast majority of those who will work at OTE from 1/1/2014 will have signed indefinite contracts, i.e. with the possibility of dismissal at any time.
