Edward Snowden may not have been chosen as Time's Person of the Year, but he was included in the 2013 list of Global Thinkerscompiledby Foreign Policy.
The whistleblower managed to send an official statement, given that he was unable to attend the reception held in Washington last Wednesday.
“I am honored that you have invited me to speak to you tonight. I apologize for my inability to attend in person, but I have passport issues. Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras are also, unfortunately, unable to accept their invitations. As it turns out, exposing certain issues of legitimate concern in our day automatically puts us on another list besides that of Global Thinkers,” Edward Snowden said with humor.
Edward thanked Foreign Policy magazine, as well as many others who have helped uncover the truth.
Snowden continues to live in Russia, where he has been offered temporary asylum.
The joke he made about his passport is related to the fact that the United States has canceled his passport, leaving him essentially stranded in the transit zone of Russia's Sheremetyevo airport, where he spent several weeks.
