A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say, and can contribute significantly to the image that someone who doesn't know us personally forms of us
Social media could not be left out of our professional lives. Some of them, such as LinkedIn, were created exclusively for this purpose. But even those that are not a candidate search tool can be used when someone wants to collect more information about us. And what is the first thing someone looks at on a profile? Exactly. Our photo.
Whether we are looking for a job or working, the photo we choose to upload to our profile should never send the wrong message. So how can we avoid this?
1) We ask someone to take our photo, either a friend or a professional. Under no circumstances do we try to do it ourselves.
2) The photo must be of a person but not resemble a passport or ID card, which are usually expressionless.
3) We request as many shots as possible to ultimately choose the best one.
4) The background behind the photo should be indifferent. The "subject" of the photo is our face. So no photos from vacations or nights out. The best position is to stand or sit in front of a wall in our house, so that the background does not draw attention.
5) Professional photography is one thing, artistic photography is another. We do not edit the photo in Photoshop to such an extent that it alters our features.
6) Before taking a photo, we pay attention to our clothing and makeup (for women). It is important to look well-groomed without exaggeration. How would we like to appear if we were going for an interview today?
7) We choose to take the photo during the day, when there is enough light.
8) We make sure we are well rested before taking pictures because a tired face shows.
9) Smile! Seriousness does not mean lack of expressiveness. A smiling face automatically evokes sympathy in someone who does not know us, and this is what we must achieve.
