Phishing scam targets customers of major Australian financial institution

Phishing-Alert-ANZ-Bank-Account-Incident-Notification

Customers of ANZ Bank, one of Australia's largest banks , are being urged to be particularly wary of fake notifications informing them of an alleged attempt to log into their account from an unknown device.

The emails are titled “Account Incident ID:Z60496200” and state:

“This is an automated message to let you know that we have detected an attempt to log in to your account, with a valid password, from an unknown device.

Login details:

Location: United States, Colorado, Colorado Springs IP = 133.217.53.84 Latitude, Longitude: 28.57046, -51.5962, connection via: MCI Local Time: 2013 16:57 ( UTC -06:00 )

If you logged in yourself, you can ignore the rest of this message. If not, please go to the following link to review your account.”

Hoax Slayer points out that the links contained in the fake emails do not lead to the genuine ANZ website. Instead, unsuspecting users are taken to a phishing website where they are asked to enter their credit card details.

Once the confidential information is handed over to the criminals, victims are redirected to the real ANZ website so as not to arouse suspicion.
