A new scam is making the rounds on the internet, which claims to be a collaboration between three internet giants – Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo – to hold a lottery with a large cash prize.
According to emails discovered by Hoax Slayer, users are informed that they have won the sum of £650,000, following a draw held between active email subscribers and Facebook users.
Beneficiaries are asked to respond to the emails with their personal information. To make it more convincing, the notification bears the logos of the three companies, as well as photos of Mark Zuckerberg and photos with the lottery manager.
Those who respond to the fake alerts are then asked to pay certain fees in order to receive the cash prize. In such scams, after receiving some money, the scammers continue to press for larger amounts until the victims finally realize that there is no prize.
