Apple's first foldable iPhone is expected to be released alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in the fall of 2026 and appears to include three features that will set it apart from the competition.

According to a recent equity research report from JP Morgan, the book-style foldable will feature a groundbreaking 24-megapixel under-display camera built into the internal display. This would be a significant leap over existing Android foldables, which typically use lower-resolution 4- or 8-megapixel under-display cameras. If the leak is accurate, the increase in quality suggests that Apple has achieved a breakthrough in light transmission and image clarity that has eluded other manufacturers.
As for the display itself, all indications are that Apple has solved the 'fold problem' that has plagued most foldable smartphones. Apple is said to have worked extensively on the hinge and display to minimize the folds, and the latest report from Chinese website UDN claims that the foldable iPhone will be the first without folds on the market.

On the battery front, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said the device will use high-density battery cells, and Korean sources suggest Apple is testing capacities in the 5,400–5,800 mAh range, while Chinese leaker Instant Digital claimed today that the final capacity will 'definitely' exceed 5,000 mAh. This means it could be the largest battery ever fitted to an iPhone, even surpassing the 5,088 mAh cell in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 4,400 mAh battery, while the Google Pixel Fold reaches 4,821 mAh. The Honor Magic V5 manages 5,820 mAh using silicon-carbon technology, but the vivo X Fold 5 has 6,000 mAh, which is currently the largest in its class.
Multiple sources agree that the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch main display when open, a 5.5-inch cover display, and Touch ID instead of Face ID. The device will feature a total of four cameras: a hole-punch front-facing camera, the aforementioned internal camera under the display, and a 48-megapixel dual-lens system on the back.
