B30A: Nvidia is preparing a new AI chip for China

The world's most valuable chipmaker, Nvidia, appears to have no intention of abandoning China (which it considers a strategic market), despite strict restrictions on the export of cutting-edge technology . According to a Reuters report, Nvidia is working on a new artificial intelligence (AI) chip, codenamed B30A, which is designed exclusively for the Chinese market.

Nvidia: The new B30A chip

The B30A will be less powerful than the top-of-the-line B300 Blackwell – with about half the computing power – but will outperform the H20, which is currently Nvidia's most advanced product available in China. Unlike the B300, which has a dual-die design, the B30A will use a single-die, while retaining features such as:

  • NVLink support for ultra-fast multi-GPU interconnection,
  • high-bandwidth memory (HBM),
  • improved data transfer.

According to the information, the development of the B30A is taking place in parallel with another chip that Nvidia is reportedly planning for the Chinese market, showing that the company is investing in multiple strategic solutions.

Nvidia's position

In an official emailed statement, the company stressed: "We are evaluating a variety of products so that we are prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow. Everything we offer is made with the full approval of the relevant authorities and is designed exclusively for beneficial commercial use."

Geopolitical dimensions

The development comes at a time when the Trump administration has appeared more accommodating about AI chip exports to China. However, Reuters reports that approval of the B30A is not a given.

The stakes are huge:

  • The US seeks to maintain its technological lead by restricting China's access to critical infrastructure for artificial intelligence.
  • Nvidia, on the other hand, sees the Chinese market as irreplaceable. Its loss could pave the way for competitors like Huawei, which is already developing its own GPU solutions.

Critics argue that the US should maintain its leadership in the industry by blocking China from accessing leading AI hardware. On the other hand, supporters of easing restrictions emphasize that a complete ban does not stop China; on the contrary, it boosts local efforts to develop GPUs and accelerators.

As it seems, the dilemma for Washington is whether it will prefer to limit China's technological development in the short term or whether it will allow American companies to maintain their economic dominance in the region.

What does it mean for the market?

The case is reminiscent of the logic of the "gold rush": Nvidia, AMD and other manufacturers do not sell the gold itself, but the tools (GPUs) that allow countries and companies to mine it. If the US restricts exports too much, there is a risk that China will turn more quickly to domestic solutions and accelerate its independence from American technology.

A few words about Nvidia

Nvidia itself as the undisputed leader in GPUs and AI accelerators, dominating a market that is now shaping the course of artificial intelligence worldwide. The company controls the majority GPU market data center, where the most advanced AI models are trained and run. Its competitors, such as AMD and Intel, are far behind.

GPU series such as Hopper and the new generation Blackwell have become the “gold standard” for training large language models (LLMs) and genetic AI systems. The combination of high computing power, high-speed interconnect (NVLink) and specialized CUDA software creates an ecosystem that is hard to compete with.

Nvidia is now considered not just a technology company, but a pillar of the global digital economy . Without its chips, progress in artificial intelligence would be much slower. That's why it's at the center of US-China geopolitical tensions
