Google's logo changes after almost 10 years

Google has made a subtle but significant aesthetic refresh, modifying its familiar colored “G” logo for the first time since 2015. The new version of the logo appeared in a recent update to the Google app for iOS and Pixel devices, bringing a smoother color gradation to the company’s four signature colors: red, yellow, green, and blue.

The last major change to Google's branding was made in September 2015, when the sans-serif font was adopted and the current monogram "G" was introduced , which brings together all the colors of the corporate identity.

Although the latest update is more subtle compared to previous ones, it seems to follow the design adopted for the artificial intelligence Gemini (gradient effect).

So far, the change has only iOS and Google Pixel been spotted on devices , with the classic version of the “G” remaining unchanged on the web and other Android devices . The company has yet to make an official statement about the change.

Google's logo refresh is indicative of the company's strategy to improve its design identity without straying from its brand identity. The move to more "fluid" color gradients, rather than strictly separated color blocks, aligns with modern design trends: more organic, less "flat" graphics and an overall sense of "flow" and technological maturity.

The change also seems to be tied to Google's new era, especially its focus on AI. As we mentioned, the Gemini logo already adopts a similar aesthetic. So it's not just an aesthetic choice, but also a way to align the products under a more unified, modern visual style.

From a branding perspective, it's a smart move: it refreshes the brand without alienating it. For the average user, it may go unnoticed, but for those who pay attention to the design identity of tech giants, it's a clear sign of evolution.
