International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) announced that it plans to invest $150 billion in the United Statesover the next five years. More than $30 billion will be allocated specifically to boost American mainframe and quantum computer.

IBM CEO Arvind Krishnasaid the company remains committed to creating jobs and manufacturing in the United States, a commitment it has made for 114 years. “With this significant investment, we are ensuring that IBM remains a leader in cutting-edge computing and artificial intelligence technologies globally,” he said.

The initiative comes shortly after US President Donald Trumpunveiled a new, aggressive trade strategy that imposes tariffs aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing. Since late April, Trump has exempted chips from tariffs, as well as smartphones, computers and other technology devices and components.
According to IBM, these investments are expected to further strengthen America's position as a global leader in the IT industry and contribute substantially to its economic growth.

IBM's investment clearly shows the strategic shift taking place worldwide: large technology companies are no longer content with just software research and development, but are also investing massively in high-tech manufacturing infrastructure within their own countries. Meanwhile, Nvidia, a major competitor to IBM in the technology space, recently made a similar announcement. The company, which has benefited significantly from the development of artificial intelligence, said it will invest heavily in the production of AI supercomputers in the United States. Specifically, Nvidia intends, through strategic partnerships, to implement AI projects worth up to $500 billion.
