Android Auto aims to bring the ability to use smart glasses while driving for greater safety. Taking your attention off the road to look at infotainment while driving can be disastrous, yet many of us do it every day while following directions on Google Maps. While some cars address this problem by bringing navigation instructions into your field of vision, either via a heads-up display or on the screen behind your steering wheel, that's not the case for the majority of cars on the road today.

Google seems to be aware of this weakness and is working on a new Android Auto feature that will bring navigation instructionsinto your field of vision, even if your car doesn't have a heads-up display, using smart glasses.
During the examination of the latest version of Android Auto (version 14.2.151544), two new phrases were identified that indicate an upcoming feature. These phrases suggest that Android Auto could be integrated into smart glasses in order to display navigation instructions within the driver’s field of view.

While these phrases don’t explicitly mention navigation support for smart glasses, the Hindi version of the phrase “GLASSES_SETTING_TEXT” provides confirmation. Instead of “Start navigation to turn on glasses,” the Hindi version translates to “To see navigation on smart glasses, start navigation.”
The feature appears to be in early development, so we'll have to wait and see if displaying navigation prompts on smart glasses reduces distractions. It doesn't seem to be any less distracting than glancing at the screen , but it could be useful if implemented properly.
