Microsoft revealed last year that it had identified a compatibility issue that led to the creation of an upgrade block for the Windows 11 2024 Update. This issue affects certain ASUS devices with highly specialized hardware components and occurs when attempting to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2.
The company said the known issue primarily affects ASUS X415KA and X515KA laptop models . According to the announcement, “ during the update process, devices may display a blue screen with an error message, making it impossible to complete the installation of version 24H2 .”
In a recent update to the Windows Release Health Dashboard, Microsoft announced the availability of a new BIOS update from ASUS. This update resolves BSOD issues, making the latest version of Windows 11 available for more ASUS devices.

ASUS users who want their PC to be ready for Windows 11 upgrade at any time are advised to install the BIOS update first. The update is available via Settings > Windows Update .

Last month, Microsoft lifted a security restriction that prevented devices with Auto HDR from installing the Windows 11 2024 Update. This restriction was implemented due to issues with games, such as freezing and graphics with excessive contrast or saturation. At the same time, Microsoft removed compatibility suspensions for Windows 11 PCs that were experiencing issues with Assassin's Creed, which caused errors, crashes, and audio glitches.
However, upgrading the BIOS on Windows 11 24H2 will not be possible if your ASUS computer is blocked by other security specifications, which may be due to incompatible settings or software.
These include devices with the game Asphalt 8: Airborne , Dirac audio enhancement software , built-in cameras, as well as apps like Safe Exam Browser and Easy Anti-Cheat .

The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is a critical error screen displayed by Windows operating systems when the system encounters an error from which it cannot recover. This screen usually indicates hardware failures, driver issues, or software conflicts that are disrupting normal operation . When a BSOD occurs, the computer stops and usually provides an error code and diagnostic information to help identify the underlying issue. Resolving a BSOD often involves troubleshooting, such as updating drivers, checking for hardware malfunctions, or reinstalling the operating system. Despite its scary name, the BSOD serves a basic function to protect the system from further damage.
