A new report suggests that Meta could start running ads on Threads as early as next year. The plan reportedly involves allowing a select group of advertisers to create and run ads starting in January. Instagram be leading the initiative.
The exact way ads will appear in Threads is still unclear, but they may appear as “sponsored” posts, something reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi in the works a while ago.

Threads debuted in July of last year, positioning itself as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter), hoping to pull users away from the platform during its tumultuous acquisition by Elon Musk.

Now, more than a year later, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerbergrevealed last month that the app already has 275 million monthly active users, a clear sign of its rapid growth. That could be exactly why the company wants to start monetizing the app soon.

Furthermore, ads on Threads shouldn't come as a surprise, especially since Instagram chief Adam Mosseri hinted at it in a post – of course – on Threads.
