Newpark Resources announced this week that access to certain IT systems and business applications has been disrupted following a ransomware attack.

The incident was discovered on Oct. 29 and a cyber response plan was immediately activated, the Texas- based oilfield drilling systems provider said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
"The incident has caused disruptions and restricted access to some of the company's information systems and business applications that support aspects of the company's operations and corporate functions, including financial and operational reporting systems," the company said.

According to the company, returning to shutdown procedures allowed it to continue production and field operations without interruption.
Newpark Resources did not share details about how the attackers gained access to its network, nor which threat actor may be responsible for the ransomware attack. No known ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
