A new Tinder has revealed that men and women have misconceptions about what the other wants from dating apps.
The Green Flags survey, released on Wednesday, analyzed the views of 8,000 heterosexual men and women aged 18 to 34 from the US, UK, Canada and Australia, aiming to better understand their expectations of the opposite sex on apps .
The findings revealed that both men and women who identify as heterosexual tend to make quick assumptions about the intentions of the other sex on the dating platform.

The majority of men (53%) and women (68%) surveyed said they wanted a romantic relationship. However, 65% of women believed that men were mostly interested in superficial relationships. For their part, only 29% of heterosexual men who responded admitted to seeking casual sex.
According to the survey, more than half of men believe that less than half of women are interested in developing a romantic relationship.
Research shows that users often misinterpret positive signals
The report also suggests that heterosexual users are facing an “Epidemic of Misunderstandings,” as they often misunderstand positive and negative signs.
“Both sexes seem to agree on relationship goals and interests, but they don’t seem to have realized it yet. Instead of communicating clearly, both men and women in the study admitted to jumping to conclusions about their partner’s desires, resulting in creating narratives based on these hasty assumptions,” the report states.
An interesting example is the expectation that many men will emphasize things like height or professional title when viewing their profiles. However, only 34% of women surveyed considered height to be a critical criterion, while 31% rated professional title as important, highlighting a different approach than what men expect.

"These misunderstandings create impressions before anyone even touches the screen, making it significantly more difficult to recognize potential matches for what they really are: a world full of opportunities," according to the research.
