Google announced that a new security update for Pixel phones is available starting yesterday, April 2.
That means you can start getting it on your Pixel device . Other Android phone makers, like Samsung, have already been rolling out their monthly security patches since last week. The April 2024 update for Pixel phones became available right after the update for Pixel watches was released on Tuesday.

Security updates are available for the following Pixel device models with build number AP1A.240405.002 (as well as build number .A1 for the Pixel Fold).
The update will be available starting today for Pixel 5a 5G and later, but it may take a few weeks to appear, depending on your device, carrier, and region.
Google explains that there are eight general security updates for Android 14, which are included in the April 2024 update. Of these, eight are listed in the April 1 bulletin, while another 20 are dated April 5. While Google does not provide detailed information about these vulnerabilities, it does rate them. The security vulnerabilities listed in the April 1 and 5 bulletins are rated from high to critical.
In addition to the security vulnerabilities in Android 14, there are 25 patches specifically for Pixel devices. These range from moderate to critical, with Google saying that two of them “may be exploitable in a limited, targeted manner.” The two issues have been identified as CVE-2024-29745 and CVE-2024-29748. The former affects the Pixel launcher, while the latter affects the Pixel firmware. For now, that’s all we know about these vulnerabilities, and the best thing you can do is update your phone right away.
Finally, the April 2024 update includes some bug fixes for Pixel devices:
- The update fixes a bug reported last month affecting the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
- We also fixed an issue that caused a black screen to appear on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro when switching from mode to video mode with standard 1x zoom.
- Camera stability is improved by adjusting zoom levels on Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Fold.

To check if your Pixel has received the April 2024 update, go to Settings > System > Software update.
