
Update on the leaks of the new Intel Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake: Analyzing the First Indications of iGPU performance with observations from Benchmarks.
They use the Alchemist+ “Xe-LPG+” and Battlemage “Xe2” GPU respectively.

Intel's Battlemage "Xe2" iGPU for Lunar Lake is nearly twice as fast as the Alchemist iGPUs in Meteor Lake & Lunar Lake chips and even outperforms the Arc A310 graphics card, according to leaked early benchmarks.
Intel is working intensively with its hardware and software teams on the next-generation Battlemage and Celestial GPUs, which will come in discrete and integrated versions. At the same time, Intel's CPU is working with the GPU team to integrate next-generation GPU architectures into its future series, such as Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake. Both of these CPUs are expected to launch in the second half of 2024.
In previous appearances of Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake CPUs in SiSoftware Sandra, the latest one is particularly interesting as it focuses on the iGPU. The benchmarks for both chips are based on very early samples, so final performance may vary, which is something to keep in mind.

As for Intel's Arrow Lake CPUs, in the Core Ultra Series 2 lineup, they will feature the latest Lion Cove P-Core, Crestmont+Skymont E-Core cores, and the Alchemist+ or Xe-LPG+ graphics architecture, a modernized version of the existing Alchemist "Xe-LPG" GPUs. They are expected to offer improvements such as increased frequencies.

The first chip spotted is a 64 EU SKU that ran between 1.7 and 2.0 GHz. This offered a maximum GPU processing performance of 1075.69 Mpix/s. That's slightly faster than the Intel Meteor Lake 64 Execution Unit chips tested last year.

The second chip is the engineering sample , which features 20 cores and a base frequency of 1.0 GHz and up to 3.91 GHz boost. This chip also features 64 Execution units and operated between 1.75 and 1.85 GHz. This achieved a maximum GPU processing performance of 1927.62 Mpix/s. This represents an 80% increase over the iGPU Alchemist+, an impressive performance.
One notable thing is that the Arrow Lake CPUs are listed with a TDP of between 65W and 125W, while the Lunar Lake chip is listed at 17W in this leak. Since Lunar Lake CPUs are designed for thin and light laptops, the low power makes sense, while the Arrow Lake CPUs could be early H-series SKUs for high-end gaming designs. These chips will compete with AMD's Zen 5-based Strix Point APUs, which are also coming this year.

The Lunar Lake iGPU with the Battlemage “Xe2” architecture also has a 26% better performance than the Meteor Lake iGPU with the Alchemist “Xe” architecture, with twice the cores, and is also ahead of the Arc A310 graphics card by 25%. Given that Lunar Lake CPUs won’t be released until late 2024, this gives us an early taste of how good the Battlemage GPUs can be. A nearly 2x performance increase over the Alchemist would be a significant development, and if we see similar gains in the standalone graphics card space, future Arc products will look impressive.

Again, it's too early to base Battlemage's performance on these benchmarks, but the Battlemage architecture in iGPUs for future desktops and laptops would be great for the general gaming audience. Lunar Lake is expected to arrive in thin and light gaming platforms in late 2024, so expect to see more details and information from Intel later this year.
