UAW President Shawn Fain is launching a campaign to organize new plants in the U.S. after successfully working with the “Big Three” automakers. The goal is to expand the union beyond the “Big Three” to the “Big Five or Big Six.” Shawn Fain plans to organize new plants by 2028 and has already launched major campaigns to achieve this. Although the UAW has suffered a decline in its membership, Fain is seeking to revive it, while many non-union companies are announcing wage increases following the UAW agreements
At the DealBook 2023 meeting in New York, the UAW’s efforts to organize Tesla factories were discussed. Elon Musk responded that if they unionize, it will be because they deserve it and pointed to Tesla ’s failure . UAW spokesman Fain referred to the increases in union efforts as a “UAW bump.”

Despite the difficulties the UAW faces in organizing outside Detroit, it highlighted the strength of the campaign at the Toyota assembly plant in Georgetown, underscoring the support of workers across the country.
