Users of the program affected by this known issue are experiencing “Error code 550 5.7.520 Message blocked” errors when trying to send emails.
According to the company, “some users may not be able to send emails with attachments from their Outlook.com account.”
The company suggested an alternative method that allows affected users to share files: by uploading them to OneDrive and sharing the link with the appropriate recipients.
To implement this workaround, users should click the attachment button when composing their message, and click OneDrive to add files they have already uploaded or click the “Upload and Share” button to add the attachment to their online storage repository. Alternatively, those affected by this issue can copy the link to an Office or OneDrive file and paste it directly into their email message.
Microsoft also provides detailed instructions to guide users through this process:
- Create a new email or event.
- Select “Attach”.
- If the file is already on OneDrive, select OneDrive.
- If the file isn't stored on OneDrive, upload it and share it.
3. Select the item(s) you want to link and click “Share Link”.

This temporary solution will allow users to share files via email while Microsoft works to address the underlying issue.
In July, Microsoft addressed another known issue that caused 401 errors and prevented Outlook.com users from searching emails . During this time, affected users also reported issues communicating with Microsoft 365 and were stuck in an unwanted Office 365 sign-in and service selection process.
A month earlier, the company faced another issue that prevented customers from the US from accessing Exchange Online mailbox via Outlook on the web.
Last year, in October 2022, the company also experienced connection issues that affected some Outlook for Microsoft 365 customers who used their Outlook.com accounts.
Microsoft, despite repeated concerns, continues to work to enhance the security and usability of Outlook.com. While difficulties remain, the company assures that its teams are dedicated to addressing and resolving these issues.
