The warning message that appears on Xbox screens when connecting unauthorized accessories is a window referring to the device in question, the error code (0x82d60002) and the aforementioned blocking date. "A connected accessory is not authorized. The use of unauthorized accessories puts your gaming experience at risk. For this reason, the use of the unauthorized accessory will be blocked on 12/11/2023."

The bug in this new Xbox policy can only be found in the latest update (10/16) of the latest generation of consoles that addresses connectivity issues, such as the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.The majority of these devices are wired controllers.

In a post by Brook Gaming, a retail business known for selling unauthorized devices and accessories for the entire Xbox range, it states on X (formerly Twitter): “We have recently received feedback from players regarding some of our products when used on Xbox consoles (the latest operating system version released on 10/16) during online play. An error message may appear. The team is fully committed to developing a solution to maintain the quality and functionality of the products. As soon as further updates are available, we will notify you immediately via our official community platforms.”

Why is Xbox changing its accessory policy?

It is likely, as Microsoft sources have suggested , that this is related to its expansion plan regarding the dominance of approved devices and consequently its controllers. Other versions and scenarios state that this strict policy is intended to encourage third parties to produce more wireless accessories for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

Previously, Microsoft didn't have an easy way for third-party manufacturers to integrate wireless functionality into their controllers, with only headsets receiving approval via a special Microsoft security chip. Now, we hear that Microsoft has an approval process for official third-party wireless controllers, and this new restriction may be the result of new security measures to enforce restrictions on imports that could bypass the game or create an uneven playing field. Also, users of accessories from manufacturers (Razer, Turtle Beach, Logitech) who have officially paid for Microsoft's support/use license have nothing to worry about.
