Threads launched successfully early last month as a Twitter competitor, perhaps offering more features. The app recorded over 100 million sign-ups within just five days of its launch. Despite the initial numbers, it appears that half of the users abandoned the platform within a few weeks of launch , as reported by Reuters.

In a recent internal company meeting, Mark Zuckerberg discussed user retention on the Threads app, according to Reuters. Zuckerberg noted that while the performance was beyond the expectations of the social media company's executives, it could be further improved.
“Obviously, when more than 100 million people sign up, it would be idealif, all or even half of them stayed. We’re not there yet” Zuckerberg added.
The CEO of Meta Platforms noted that user rejection is a common occurrence and that sign-ups will likely increase due to new features added to the app, as well as upcoming features, such as a desktop, alongside search functionality. Meta recently updated the iOS of its Threads app, bringing significant changes. It also recently updated the Android. The app added a new feature called “Following” – a highly requested feature that allows users to view a chronological overview of the Threat accounts they follow.

Meta appears to be trying to bring back lost users to its app by adding “ retention-driving hooks ” that aim to ensure that Instagram users can perceive important Threads. This effort was announced by Chief Product Officer Chris Cox during the same meeting. For those who don’t know, Instagram already allows Threads to appear as Stories, if Threads users wish to share any thread on the social media platform
Of course, Threads needs to continue adding new features if it wants to compete successfully with Twitter. So far, it seems to be on the right track and making progress in that direction.

To meet the need for user retention, Threads provides a fairly adaptable and flexible platform. The various personalization options it provides, as well as the ability to combine multiple messages into a single conversation, make the app particularly attractive to users. However, it is up to Meta to continue to integrate new features and expand the app, keeping it interesting and up-to-date for its users.
