Stability AI is making a splash in the AI world with its latest release, StableStudio and Stable Animation SDK.
Stability AI, the startup behind Stable Diffusion, last week unveiled a new tool that will allow users to create animations using just a text prompt. The company is also creating the StableStudio!
The open-source artificial intelligence company said the new tool, the Stable Animation SDK, is designed for artists and developers to apply the most advanced Stable Diffusion “to create stunning animations.”
Stability AI states that animations can be created using one of three methods: writing prompts without images, using an original image, or using an original video.

In other words, a user can create a 3D animation of a dragon or a sunset by typing in just a few keywords. Users can change certain features or parameters, such as the color, shape, size, and texture of the animation.
Artists can use all Stable Diffusion, including Stable Diffusion 2.0 and Stable Diffusion XL, to create animations.
“Our mission is to build the foundation for unlocking humanity’s potential,” said Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque in a statement. “With the Stable Animation SDK , we ’re giving users a new way to unleash their creativity and imagination using generative AI . We’re excited to see what amazing things people will create with this tool!”
Users who want to try this new tool must perform a few additional technical steps, unlike those of DALL-E or Bing Image Creator.
Also on Wednesday, Stability AI officially announced the launch of its StableStudio platform . Essentially, this platform is an “open source” rendition of the company’s current DreamStudio that uses the Stable Diffusion AI image generator . The new platform allows users to use the company’s latest Stable Diffusion XL image generator and its currently limited language model called StableLM . The company said it is still working on a version of its StableVicuna chat interface for StableLM , which it will eventually add to StableStudio .

“We believe the best way to expand this impressive reach is through open, community-driven development, rather than private iteration on a closed-source product,” Stability AI in its announcement. The ultimate goal, according to Stability AI, is to create an AI that users can “fully control.” DreamStudio will remain the company’s internal implementation of AI models.
The ongoing debate between big tech companies like Google and Microsoftand the broader developer community continues to revolve around the access and limitations of AI. Recently, a senior Google highlighted this point, arguing that open-source models are “faster, more customizable, more private, and more capable.”
