Porsche releases its sportiest model with an internal combustion engine amid much fanfare. In 2024 the Porsche 718 Spyder RS will be the final variant of the two‑seater 718 line to be offered with a gasoline engine before being replaced by an all‑electric version next year.

The Spyder RS is a roadster version of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS coupe and has the same high-revving engine.
The flat 6‑cylinder 4.0‑liter engine mounted in the middle produces 493 hp, which is also used in the 911 GT3.
Its red line is set at 9,000 rpm. This is impressively high for a production car engine, with the cylinders firing at a rate of 27,000 times per minute at this speed.
The air intakes located behind the driver’s and co‑driver’s shoulders help enhance the sound of the naturally aspirated engine. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic seven‑speed dual‑clutch gearbox, which can be shifted with paddles behind the steering wheel.

The open Spyder RS does not have an integrated roof for weight saving, but it has a fabric roof that is manually installed and fastened for occasional use.
The car is designed with track driving in mind and features a design inspired by racing, with ducts over the front wheels that reduce aerodynamic lift at speed. The ducktail aerodynamic shape creates downforce to keep the rear of the car stable on the road surface.
The Spyder RS rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and a computer-controlled suspension system. Its top speed is listed at 191 km/h.
Pricing starts at $162,150, which is exactly the same as the price of the Cayman GT4 RS coupe and more than double the price of an entry-level 718 Cayman or 718 Boxster cabrio.
