Turn on Advanced Data Protection on iPhone

Apple has proven to be a leader in protecting the privacy and security of its users across all of devices . The company recently launched App Tracking Transparency, a feature that gives users the power to decide whether an app can track their activity for marketing purposes. All Apple users outside the US will now be able to take advantage of Advanced Data Protection and end-to-end encryption for iCloud with the release of iOS 16.2.

Advanced Data Protection

iCloud Advanced Data Protection ensures data is safe, with end-to-end encryption for passwords, payment information, and health data.

Apple has taken data protection to the next level with Advanced Data Protection, increasing the number of sensitive data categories from 14 to 23 – including Notes, iCloud Backup , and Photos. By enabling this useful feature, you can make sure your data in iCloud is safe. With this security measure, Apple won’t be able to see your encrypted data in the cloud – even in the event of a cyberattack .

To get started, make sure your iPhone is running iOS 16.2 or a newer version. If not, update to the latest iOS version and follow the instructions below.

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Select iCloud.
  3. Scroll down and select Advanced Data Protection.
  4. Then, select Enable Advanced Data Protection.

It is important to set up your Account Recovery so that you can have quick and easy access to your account. If you have not yet made this setting, follow the steps below for a secure and simple process.

iPhone
  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Select Password & security.
  3. Tap Account recovery.
  4. Select Add recovery contact , then select it again.
  5. Use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock device .
  6. Select a contact of your choice.
  7. Tap Add to save the contact as a recovery contact.
  8. Select Send to send the request to the contact.
  9. Press Done.

After you set the Account Recovery settings, follow the necessary steps to enable Advanced Data Protection.

  1. Return to Advanced Data Protection settings.
  2. Enable Advanced Data Protection.
  3. Follow the additional verification steps, including entering the recovery key and the lock password.
  4. Once everything is set, you will receive a confirmation that Advanced Data Protection is enabled.

By enabling Advanced Data Protection on iCloud, you can keep your data safe and protected. Access to your information is limited only to devices that are registered as yours. To access your data on iCloud.com, you must first grant permission using one of your trusted devices.
