Yesterday, during the Capcom Showcase, the company discussed the recently announced Resident Evil 4 Remake – and showed off a few seconds of gameplay. Admittedly, especially given the other in-depth analysis in the presentation, it was pretty disappointing.

Director Yasuhiro Anpo and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi wrapped up the presentation, updating players on the story of Resident Evil 4 Remake and talking about how the game is both a reimagining of the original material and a faithful adaptation of it. Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, RE4's protagonist, Leon Kennedy, is now the personal bodyguard of the President of the United States. When the President's daughter goes missing, Leon is sent to a remote European village to find her. As you might expect, things don't go well.
Then we get a first look at the gameplay, and to be clear, visually, it looks great. The footage is set at the beginning of Resident Evil 4 Remake, when Leon arrives outside the village in the forest. Compared to the original game, the forest is much darker and more terrifying. “We want to convey the feeling of loneliness and fear even more than in the original,” Hirabayashi during the presentation. “Of course, there will be some heart-pounding battles.”

It makes sense if you were expecting to get a glimpse of those exciting battles, but unfortunately, none of that was presented. Our glimpse of gameplay ends as Leon walks into a house in the middle of the forest – where Leon encounters the first Ganado, just like in the original Resident Evil 4.

There's more excitement for Resident Evil 4 Remake than any other game we know of right now. The original is one of the most beloved games of all time, which makes this gameplay reveal quite disappointing. It would have been nice to get a real look at the game, but that wasn't in the company's plans. Hopefully we'll get a better look at what's included in the game in the future.
