WhatsApp plans to end support for iOS 10 and 11 in the fall of this year. This means that users who have devices running these versions of the operating system will not be able to use the app after October 24. A new notification spotted by WABetaInfo urges iPhone users to install the latest version of Apple that is supported by device in order to continue using the app. Additionally, a notice on WhatsApp's support page states that devices will need to be running at least iOS 12.

To upgrade your device, go to Settings > General and then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version.
If you still have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6s, you will be able to use WhatsApp on your device, but iPhone 5 and 5c owners should consider switching devices due to the iOS version they are running (if they consider WhatsApp essential).

On the other hand, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are quite old models, so it's likely that not too many users. In most cases, users who have the two affected models have gotten them from someone else (a friend or relative who has changed devices). Therefore, owners of these phones may not even be interested in the new technology and do not use apps like WhatsApp. However, millions of people around the world depend on WhatsApp to communicate with their friends and family, and it's certain that there will be at least some iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c owners who will be affected by the discontinuation of support for iOS 10 and 11.

And as WhatsApp announces the end of support for these iOS versions, we shouldn't forget that we're just a few weeks away from WWDC 2022, where Apple will likely announce iOS 16. Rumor has it that the new operating system will stop working with the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the original iPhone SE.
