The latest falls mean the value of the cryptocurrency market as a whole has fallen 9 percent in the past day, according to tracking website CoinMarketCap.

Many of these other cryptocurrencies saw even more dramatic declines than bitcoin. Ethereum fell nearly 11 percent on Thursday morning, and several major coins fell more than 10 percent.
