The Coombe University Hospital for Women & Children confirmed that it was hit with ransomware during the night.

The attack is believed to have been contained to Coombe, although it has affected many systems in the hospital. HSE is working with Coombe to assess the scope of the ransomware attack.
“We want to assure everyone who has access to our services that these services continue to operate normally», the hospital said. “Proactively we have locked all our IT systems and are working closely with HSE to resolve this issue».

«At this point we have not seen evidence of external impact on Coombe Hospital, but we continue, with external support, to assess whether there is a broader impact», said HSE.
The latest attack comes just days after a report was published about the ransomware attack that crippled the HSE earlier this year.
It was discovered that opening a malicious Microsoft Excel file attached to a phishing email led to the cyber attack. The ransomware was deployed on May 14.

The CEO of HSE, Paul Reid, said that a large proportion of organizations that suffer a cyber attack «are hit again» and that actions have been taken and are being taken to mitigate the risk for the service.
