Google Chrome: How to stop it from asking you to make it the default browser

Google Chrome displays a small message at the top asking you to set it as your default browser. Unfortunately, there is no option in Chrome to get rid of this message forever.

However, you can click the “X” on this default browser prompt to dismiss it. This isn’t a permanent solution, but it will stop Chrome from bothering you for a while.

Mozilla Firefox: How to stop it from asking you to make it the default browser

Unlike Chrome, Firefox offers the ability to permanently disable the default browser prompt. Once you enable this option, Firefox will never ask you to set it as the default browser again.

To use this option, launch Firefox and click the menu button in the top right corner.

Select “Options” from the menu.

On the Firefox Options screen, click “General” on the left. Turn off the “Always check if Firefox is your default browser” option on the right. Firefox will stop asking to be your default.

Microsoft Edge: How to stop it from asking you to make it the default browser

Like Chrome, Microsoft Edge doesn't have an option to permanently remove the browser's default prompt. But you can manually dismiss the message and get rid of the prompt for a while.

To do this, open Microsoft Edge on your computer. When the message appears, click the “X” button on the right side of the banner.
