A study conducted by cybersecurity group Digital Shadows on dark web forums – released on Monday – explored discussions among black hat hackers, who gave each other tips on how to avoid jail time, what to do when they are on law enforcement's radar, and the optimistic nature of many regarding the prospect of being caught.

In February, in an interview between a LockBit ransomware operator and Cisco Talos, the cybercriminal said that the “best country” for such a professional to live is Russia, but “the undervaluation and low salaries led him to engage in criminal activities.”
When it comes to traveling abroad, forum users believe that this apparent peace agreement only lasts as long as the hacker doesn't cross the border.

Operational security practices (OPSEC) are widely discussed, with users of dark web forums exchanging tips for avoiding capture and remaining anonymous.
