The US government has decided to place a statue in honor of Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs in the National Garden of American Heroes. Steve Jobs was one of the greatest figures in modern history and played a major role in shaping the identity of Apple. In this way, the visionary will be honored for his contribution to the “American Dream”. According to an order signed by the outgoing US, Donald Trump, a garden that will be dedicated to the legends of America’s past. Among them is Steve Jobs.
Specifically, the order states that each individual to be honored in the National Garden of American Heroes has been chosen for their contributions to the American spirit, courage, excellence, action, self-confidence, faith, and love. In addition, each of them has amazed the world with their immense strength and will, while also helping to shape American history.
Trump states in his order: “The National Garden will be built to reflect the awesome grandeur of our country’s timeless exceptionalism. It will be a place where citizens, young and old, can renew their vision of greatness and take up the challenge I gave to every American in my first address to Congress.”
The long list of statues includes Steve Jobs along with many other big names from American history, including presidents, inventors, and visionaries from various fields. In addition to the Steve Jobs statue in the National Garden of American Heroes, the list covers a wide range of personalities, including Emily Dickinson, Walt Disney, Aretha Franklin, Jesse Owens, Miles Davis, Rosa Parks, Kobe Bryant, Nikola Tesla, John Wayne, Martin Luther King Jr., the Wright Brothers, Albert Einstein, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, as well as several former US presidents.
The order notice does not specify where the garden will be built, but says a location and funded by the Secretary of the Interior. The original order had a deadline of July 4, 2026, which marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The garden was announced in July 2020 by Trump at an event at Mount Rushmore, and was intended by Trump to be a response to the removal of statues and monuments to historical figures that the public opposed. This includes a number that were removed in response to the George Floyd protests in 2020.
