Microsoft Office: January updates released

Microsoft has released the non-security updates for Microsoft Office for January 2021. The updates fix known issues affecting the Windows Installer (MSI) versions of Office 2016 products.

Microsoft also released non-security updates to the Current Channel for Microsoft 365 Apps to address Excel errors and Outlook crashes.

Update KB4493166 addresses an issue that causes recurring errors when using Outlook 2016.

January 2021 non-security updates

This month's non-security Office updates can be installed manually from the Download Center or automatically using the Microsoft Update service.

The updates only apply to versions of Office that use Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based installers and do not apply to Microsoft 365 Apps.

Some updates may require a restart

After applying some of this month's Microsoft Office updates, you may also be prompted to restart computer .

If you encounter problems after updating your Office installation, you can easily uninstall the update by following the following procedure:

1.Go to Start , type View Installed Updates in the Windows Search box , and then press Enter .

2.In the list of updates, locate and select the update that is causing you problems, and then select Uninstall.

Depending on the Office update you are using, you may also need to apply other updates to address/fix issues on your device (for example, update KB4484509 requires installing KB4493157).
