A new feature that NordVPN, called Dark Web Monitor, scans the Dark Web to discover if a person’s personal credentials have been exposed on an illegal website. Known primarily for its VPN to its customers, NordVPN also releases other privacy and security features to keep its users safe from the dangers of the internet.
Dark Web Monitor identifies when a user's credentials are being shared online and sends a real-time alert. The service is especially important given that online users now have multiple accounts that they need to keep secure. Unfortunately, the difficulty of remembering multiple different passwords can often lead people to use the same credentials across multiple accounts.
This means that attackers can gain access to a multitude of platforms with a single compromised password.
An easy and useful solution
When NordVPN’s Dark Web Monitor detects credential leaks, it alerts users immediately so they can change their passwords before cybercriminals can do any damage. The new feature is available today for users of the latest version of the NordVPN iOS app and is coming to Android users soon .
Dark Web Monitor provides a similar service to the “Have I Been Pwned” website, but it doesn’t require any user intervention. Dark Web scanning is performed continuously as part of the tool that NordVPN customers already use.
Other recent announcements from NordVPN include the launch of NordPass' DataPrack Scanner , the construction of new partner servers, and the reveal of split-tunneling functionality coming soon for Windows users .
