The productivity of most software development teams has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, a new study finds. But if you're a software developer, you probably already know this.
Amid the crisis, software team productivity has remained at very high levels. The survey, conducted by Accelerated Strategies Group (ASG) for CloudBees, reports that the majority, 59 percent, said that software teams “are significantly or somewhat more productive” than before the crisis, and 43 percent say it has become somewhat easier to complete their work on time.

ASG data showed that software teams are working more closely with product management, project management, operations and security. Additionally, 61 percent of IT admins found it easier to work across time zones, with 40 percent indicating it is easier to collaborate with executives on different continents and 37 percent of respondents noting that it was easier to leverage flexible working hours to achieve their goals.
This probably comes as no surprise to seasoned software professionals. Global organizations of remote, web-based developers have been operating remotely for at least three decades for everything from operating systems to enterprise ERP solutions. In fact, these organizations have been operating entirely remotely, virtually, since day one.
In the era of remote work, does it still matter where companies are located? The most advanced applications, such as artificial intelligence, are work that does not require employees to be in one of the offices. An IT professional in Indonesia can do just as good a job as one in one of the countries where any company is located.
The ASG survey also shows that the majority of businesses (63%) have stepped up efforts . Other priorities, such as business automation (62%) and the need to invest in creating contactless services (60%), have increased.
The ASG survey also showed shifting priorities that have emerged as a result of the conditions created by Covid-19. The majority of IT managers, 52 percent, say they have increased their focus on DevOps initiatives. Another 52 percent have moved to cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform ). Teamwork has also prevailed through the crisis, with 46 percent saying they use cross-functional teams, while 56 percent are holding daily remote meetings. 43 percent have also increased their automation of tasks.
