Instagram is launching QR codes that can be scanned to open a profile , from any camera app .

Instagram today introduced a new feature that will allow users to create QR codes, which can be easily scanned by any app that supports scanning, including a phone. The feature was tested last year in Japan and is now rolling out globally.
Creating a QR code is very simple. All you have to do is go to “settings” and click on “QR code.” Previously, the social media platform had “Nametags,” which were somewhat similar to codes, but could only be used through Instagram’s internal camera.
So, this is the expansion of an existing feature, which will allow users to escape the "Instagram bubble" and share details without being limited to the app's camera to do so.
The QR code feature will be particularly useful for retailers, who will now be able to provide their customers with account without any physical contact. Retailers who rely on Instagram to sell their products will now be able to attract more users to their pages, which is very important, as it allows customers to make purchases directly from Instagram or through the store's website.

QR codes are becoming increasingly popular due to the need for a “contactless experience.” The world is moving towards a QR code-based approach for businesses, and Instagram is trying to fill the gap, especially since it plans to have a marketplace as well, and by adding a separate “Shop” section to the Discover section.
It’s worth noting that of Instagram’s competitors, only Twitter uses actual QR codes, while others stick to their own tag format. However, Instagram is a much more viable place than Twitter to sell goods, which means it may be the first app of its kind to bring this feature.
