However, as people around the world try to adapt to the new reality, PC sales have started to increase again.

According to the latest numbers published by Gartner, global PC grew by 2.8% in the 2nd quarter of 2020. The total number of devices sold was 64.8 million, including laptops, desktops, and workstations.

Additionally, another report released by IDCsuggests that approximately 72.3 million units were sold in Q2 2020, marking an 11.2% year-on-year increase.

The effects of the pandemic on supply chains have been visible in recent months, due to the lockdown and protective measures taken, resulting in a decrease in sales.

However, as the latest reports suggest, the PC market has started to gradually recover. Apparently, the reason behind this increase is that more and more people are adopting working from home.

Apart from professionals, schools and other academic institutions have replaced traditional teaching methods with online education through video conferencing applications and e-learning platforms.

“What remains to be seen is whether this demand and high level of usage will continue during the global recession and post- COVID, as budgets shrink while schools and workplaces reopen,” said IDC director Jitesh Ubrani.
