Users are reporting that they are experiencing an issue with Windows 10 where they are being blocked from applying the May 2020 Update when they attempt to manually upgrade via Windows Update. This issue is due to unsupported settings in Windows 10 2004. Additionally, while the error dialog box states that Microsoft is working on a fix or supporting settings, it does not list the settings that are causing the update block when attempting to manually upgrade. Users are also informed that no action is required, but Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically when these settings are supported.
Reports of devices being blocked from upgrading to Windows 10 2004 have appeared over the past two weeks across multiple channels, including Reddit, SuperUser, as well as Microsoft Answers [1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ], Microsoft Q&A [1, 2], and Microsoft TechNet sites.

While Microsoft has yet to officially acknowledge this issue and has not announced a fix for it, the company's software engineer, Jennifer Feng, said that some users will receive a message that the updatedue to various compatibility issues with many systems and hardware configurations. Feng advised users who have received this message to take the following steps to get the May 2020 Update via Windows Update:
- Update your hardware drivers.
- Disable Kernel Isolation by going to Settings > Windows Security > Open Windows Security > Device Security > Kernel Isolation Details.
- Continue to check the Windows 10 2004 release information page for mitigations and solutions for known issues.
While it has not been confirmed yet that these steps actually work and are effective, there is an unofficial fix shared by a user on Microsoft's TechNet web portal for IT professionals that has been proven to be effective. All that is required for the successful completion of the update is for users to disconnect the affected computer from the Internet after downloading the update ISO / verifying the update and running the update while offline.

According to Microsoft's Windows 10 2004 health dashboard, seven update blocks are preventing certain devices with known compatibility issues from receiving the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. The update blocks are as follows:

• Errors or issues during or after updating devices with certain Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers.

• Blue screen error when connecting/disconnecting a Thunderbolt dock.
• Issues updating or starting devices when aksfridge.sys or aksdf.sys is present.
• Issue with older drivers for Nvidia display adapters (GPUs).
