Accounts of the popular gaming platform Roblox were hacked and used to boost Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election in November.
Roblox is an online video game platform that allows its members to create and publish games. The platform is extremely popular, with over 100 million monthly active users and is ranked in the top 100 sites worldwide.
The platform is aimed at all ages, however it is most used by people aged 9 to 14.
But since last week, some Roblox accounts have been compromised, via a brute-forcing attack.
Once the hacker gains access to an account, they modify the Aboutto display a message urging children to tell their parents to vote for Trump.
“Ask your parents to vote for Trump this year! #MAGA2020.”
Additionally, the attacker provides two free outfits that he adds to the compromised account's avatar to make it look like a supporter of President Trump.
The campaign was initially detected on Saturday and there were already around 500 accounts that had been compromised and so far, their number has exceeded 1,000 on the Google search engine.
Roblox has not yet commented on the incident.
What should Roblox users do?
If you believe your Roblox account has been compromised, you should attempt to log into the account and change password to a more complex one.
For those who do not remember their passwords, they can perform a password reset to be able to log back into their account.
In addition to using a secure password, however, it is recommended that users enable 2-factor authentication on their Roblox accounts for added security.
