At its Future of Gaming event on Thursday, Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 console to the audience. The company showed off the upcoming PS5 at the end of the event along with the new DualSense that we first saw in April. Sony also showed off a range of peripherals including a new HD camera, a charging station for the controllers, a media remote controller , and Pulse 3D wireless headphones. It's unclear at this time whether the peripherals Sony showed off will be sold with the console or separately.
The new PS5, which was also pictured on its side, features a futuristic white with black trim and blue accents.
The next-gen console will come in two versions: a standard model with a Blu-ray drive and a slimmer digital machine focused entirely on downloads and streaming services. Sources say the PS5 will use an SSD drive , as opposed to the traditional hard drives used in previous PlayStations, and that game discs will support capacities of up to 100GB.
Although prices and release dates have not yet been given, Sony CEO Jim Ryan said that the company plans to launch the new PlayStation 5 in 2020. You can watch the new trailer here:
The company talked about the new games it will release with the PlayStation 5, announcing titles such as the Spider-Man sequel, Resident Evil 8 and Horizon Forbidden West. We are sure that these titles will not go unnoticed by gamers. Sources say that a total of 12 new games have been confirmed for the new console.
Sony had delayed the Future of Gaming event when global protests erupted in response to the killing of an unarmed man, George Floyd, while he was in police custody. Sony had originally scheduled the event for June 4 despite the coronavirus, which managed to cancel the annual E3 for this year.
