The Lunar Eclipse on livestream for those of you who don't have visibility: A Lunar Eclipse combined with a full "Strawberry Moon" as they call it in America, is coming tonight for a magical event! There will be a partial eclipse of some parts of the Moon, which will only be visible from some parts of the Earth.
Unfortunately, the nickname "Strawberry Moon" for the June moon does not describe color its, but is an old reference to the strawberry harvest season.
While the moon will be at its absolute full this afternoon, you'll have the chance to enjoy it for the next few days as well. It has already been visible in full since early yesterday morning, and will remain so until Sunday morning, NASA Monday.
North America will not have visibility during the eclipse, but thanks to the "Virtual Telescope Project" they will be able to watch it online. The Virtual Telescope Project will present the lunar event via livestream from Italy, with a view of the sky of Rome.
A penumbral lunar eclipse is less noticeable than a total lunar eclipse . The moon will pass through the Earth's outer shadow (penumbra), and this will cause a slight darkening of the Moon. If you didn't know, you probably wouldn't notice it, as a partial lunar eclipse like today's is very subtle. However, the "dwellers of the Moon" would certainly notice the effect.
"For lunar spacecraft, such as theLunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), the reduction in solar energy is quite noticeable," NASA added.
